Fist! Now that the lockout is over, let us all enjoy the absence of MJL and mourn the death of laughs, who has perished in the great snowstorm to hit newfieland. |

I just don't understand the knock on Yakupov. The kid is Muslim. He does not drink. Are you serious about wanting Khabibulen to show him the ropes. Have you really thought this through. I think he is just an ebullient kid with a ton of personality. Give the kid a little space. I think once the fans get a chance to understand that he is just an excited kid, they are going to warm up to him real strong.
He has repeatedly signaled that he is not the traditional Russian. Give him a chance. I get the feeling that some in Edmonton are looking for reasons not to like him. |

Although I would rather have the Oiler's roster than the Leaf's, I disagree with you comparing us to Calgary. I would compare present day flames to the days of JFJ, old veterans, no young real talent and trading away picks and prospects for aging rentals to try to make the playoffs. I know our roster isn't great but let's be honest, before Burke came in it was a mess. Now at least we have a pretty decent prospect pool, and some actual youthful talent.
So I don't think Toronto and Calgary are a good comparison. I would have rather gone full rebuild like you guys when Burke came in but I think we are better off than Calgary. |

Actually it is still .08 for a DUI, they can just give ya a 24 hour if ya blow between .05 and .08. If you are gonna troll, at least try and get yer facts straight. - ruttager17
Haha it was just a joke....besides if you are .05 you are still DUI.
Anyways, no big deal Oiler fans.

Im not.
He likes Edmonton and I think he will have no problem fitting in.
Khabibulin picked him up at the airport, and contrary to popular perception, hes a very professional athlete, and a hero in Russia... I have no problem with him taking Yak under his wing at this point.

Richard Cloutier: Steve Tambellini: A Model, Idiot - Maxbone
Clout (to paraphrase): Tambellini has been brilliant by purposely tanking each and every of his three years, continuing the good work of Lowe, so their roster now looks better than the Leafs or Flames on paper'.
Well, I have said before and will say it again, the Oil ripped off their fanbase for over half a decade. For maybe a window of 2-3 yrs. If they dodge injuries, DD plays like a franchise goalie (questionable), ect.
I am quite pleased with Calgary's roster, and they will prove to surprise some. They also tried to make the playoffs each yr, even if they fell short the last 3, and were more interesting to follow due to this.
However, enjoy your all star front 6. Time will tell how the rest works out, and if the D and G can hold up. Hall would be the biggest question (injury-wise), but I think he will work out well.
I just don't see all the chest puffing to be anything but hypocritical. Good fans don't cheer for their team to tank, and then, think they are world-beaters. |

KHabibulin also mentored, and took under his wing a young female tennis player a while back.

You do know that a DUI is an American term. Driving a vehicle while over .08 is a violation of the Canadian Criminal Code, and this will get you a day in court and a criminal record. Being caught for driving with a BAC over .05 and under .08 is not a Criminal Code Violation. But rather a large inconvenience that comes with a large monetary punishment in the way of a vehicle tow and impound fees, and walking for 3 days. If you are convicted of multiple times of operation of a motor vehicle between .05 and .08 you eventually will get your walking papers for a long period of time. But you will NEVER be in violation of the Canadian Criminal Code and as such be given a criminal record as say you would for a DUI in the USA. Just a FYI for ya.
Ps: Sorry about your luck with being a Flamers fan. |

Tambellini has done next to nothing as GM. He has made obvious moves that anyone with half a brain could have made. That being said, he has accumulated a lot of value by tanking.
Tambellini's job starts now, in this season. We will see if he actually grows a pair and makes a trade to improve the team, or continues the sit around and wait approach. ( Which I want to make clear, has worked so far, and in my opinion is the smartest way to collect value, even if I don't have much respect for it.) |

Ever heard the phrase short term pain equals long term gain? I think that applies here muchacho. But enjoy you 9th place finishes all you want. We will wait for our ship to come in. And believe me it's not lost somewhere in the North Atlantic like the Flamers is. What do you think you will get for Iggy at the deadline if he choses to be moved? I think at least a first rounder and a NHL player. As well who is Clout's guy you speak of?? Richard's REAL nick name is Boner. |

Your right, I don't know a lot about the Flames roster and system but who is top young talent? Baertshi is awesome, no doubt about that, but I still don't think you guys have a very good future.
I mean guys like gaudreau and granlund are skilled but I dont think their play/size will transition that well into the nhl. Someone like Sieloff i would question his upside.
Brodie and backlund are young and show potential but I just don't see a lot of hope for the future unless you start trading guys like iggy, kipper and jbo for youth/pics.
Correct me if I'm wrong but am i missing top prospects or high potential youth? |

That is hilarious- noted.
Well, I don't think they will need to worry about trading since they will (hopefully) be in a playoff position by the deadline. The Flames are in a decent position, and with a much better coach + drafting, it looks like the sky is the limit.
Difference being, no pie in the sky mentality that the Oil fans have taken before the puck has being dropped.
To paraphrase Obummer, Hope and Change for the 2013 Flames, except the inverse:
Change, then, Hope. |
